SAP Buys Dremio and Prior Labs for Agentic AI Push

SAP is acquiring Dremio and Prior Labs, pairing the deals with a $1.1 billion investment commitment to scale Prior Labs globally. Dremio brings Apache Iceberg-native lakehouse architecture. Prior Labs brings Tabular Foundation Model research. Together they slot into SAP Business Data Cloud.
The strategic logic is data infrastructure, not model hype. SAP CTO Philipp Herzig said enterprise AI stalls because data is not ready, not because models are inadequate. Dremio is positioned as the fix: unifying SAP and non-SAP data into governed, AI-ready intelligence on a single open platform. CRN first reported the acquisitions.
Watch whether enterprise buyers shift lakehouse spending toward SAP or treat this as a consolidation signal to lock in existing open-format bets with rivals. The Iceberg-native move is a direct play for data that currently lives outside SAP. Distribution of enterprise data, not model quality, is the contest.
