Salesforce Adds AI Agent to Slack to Fight Microsoft

Salesforce launched a new AI agent embedded in Slack, its workplace messaging platform. The bot is designed to handle tasks inside conversations, positioning Slack as an agentic work surface rather than a simple chat tool. VentureBeat reported the rollout as an explicit play against Microsoft and Google.
The stakes are distribution. Microsoft has Copilot wired into Teams and Office 365. Google has Gemini across Workspace. Salesforce's answer is to turn Slack, which it acquired for 27.7 billion dollars in 2021, into the layer where AI agents operate rather than just messages pass.
Watch whether enterprise buyers treat Slack as a destination or a pipe. If the agent handles real workflow steps inside conversations, Salesforce keeps the attention. If buyers route agentic work through Microsoft or Google's native surfaces instead, Slack becomes expensive infrastructure with a shrinking moat.
