Railway Raises $100M to Build an AI-Native Cloud

Railway has raised $100 million to compete against established cloud providers with infrastructure built from the ground up for AI, according to VentureBeat. The bet is that AWS and its peers are legacy plumbing retrofitted for a new era, and that a purpose-built alternative can win on developer experience and AI-native design.
Cloud infrastructure is where AI economics get decided. Compute costs, latency, deployment friction: these are the real barriers between a model release and a trusted outcome someone actually pays for. Incumbents own distribution and enterprise contracts. A challenger needs a wedge, and AI-native tooling is the current candidate.
Watch whether Railway wins developer adoption first or enterprise spend first. Those are different markets with different sales cycles. The signal will not be the fundraise. The signal will be where workloads actually move.
